It is a two-year certificate course that bridges the gap between basic schooling and professional engineering, focusing heavily on practical skills required for the construction industry. Course Curriculum • The curriculum is designed to be industry-oriented, covering the essential pillars of civil works: • Surveying: Fundamentals of leveling, chain surveying, compass surveying, and modern surveying instruments. • Engineering Drawing: Manual drafting of building plans, sections, elevations, and structural details. • Building Materials & Construction: Knowledge of bricks, cement, concrete, timber, and the various stages of building construction. • Quantity Surveying & Estimation: Calculating material requirements and preparing cost estimates for projects. • Hydraulics & Irrigation: Basics of fluid mechanics and irrigation systems. Employment Opportunities • Draftsman: Graduates are highly sought after as Grade II or Grade III Draftsmen in government departments like PWD, Irrigation, and LSGD. • Surveyor: Opportunity to work as a licensed surveyor for land measurement and infrastructure projects. • Work Superintendent: Managing on-site labor, materials, and ensuring work progress according to blueprints. • Site Supervisor: Overseeing private residential or commercial construction projects. • CAD Operator: With additional software training (AutoCAD), KGCE holders work in design firms. Higher Education & Lateral Entry KGCE Civil Engineering: holders are often eligible for lateral entry or specific quotas into the second year of a Diploma in Civil Engineering.
